ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior Karsyn Kondracki (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) recorded a hat trick as the Oneonta women's soccer team downed Canton 9-1 on Saturday afternoon. Overall, six different Red Dragons found the back of the net. Oneonta moves to 3-7-3 overall and 1-3-2 in the SUNYAC, while Canton falls to 0-15-0 and 0-7-0 in the conference.
Oneonta struck in the fourth minute when Canton goalkeeper Mackenzie Ryan saved a shot from senior Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia). Kondracki took the rebound and knocked the ball into the net to make it 1-0. The Red Dragons scored again in the 22nd minute when freshman Violet Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) hit the post, but collected the ball and scored her first-career goal at 22:53.
At 27:43, Ring crossed the ball to junior Caroline Schimitsch (Little Neck, NY/The Mary Louis Academy), who scored to push the lead to 3-0.
Canton scored on a penalty kick goal at 28:47, with Shannon Platt scoring low and left.
Oneonta added two more goals in the first half. Junior Lisa Schinckel (Sydney, Australia/Hornsby Girls School) struck a long-range ball at 39:49 to score her first-career goal. Junior Dominique DiOrio (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) netted her first-career goal at 42:24 after a scramble in front of the net to make it 5-1 heading into halftime.
Oneonta continued to roll in the second half with sophomore Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) scoring at 61:28, and Kondracki netting her second goal at 73:39 to make it 7-1. Not to be outdone, freshman Bella Mattoni (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla) joined her sister in netting her first-career goal at 75:38 off an assist from senior Tara Nicholson (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy). Kondracki recorded the hat trick at 79:28 to secure the Oneonta victory.
Oneonta outshot Canton 21-1, while holding a 7-0 corner kick advantage.
The Red Dragons next travel to face New Paltz on Wednesday, October 22 at 3 p.m.
