Men's Tennis Shuts Out Marywood, 7-0, in Fall Finale

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Oneonta men's tennis team picked up their fourth shutout victory as they defeated Marywood, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in their final match of the fall season at Dr. Heissan's Tennis Courts. Sophomores Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) and Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) both won in doubles and singles play as the Red Dragons improved to 5-1 overall and the Pacers dropped to 5-5 in the season.

Pitaleff and Ritterman bumped their doubles record up to 5-1 after they bageled Isaac Carpenter and Zane Smoker on the No. 2 court. Senior William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and junior Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) upended Gavin Gagliardi and Alex Corcoran on court No. 1 for a 6-1 win and improved to a perfect 6-0 as a duo. Freshman Jake Mayola (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) and Aiden Wavra (Katy, TX/Katy) completed the Red Dragons sweep in doubles with a 6-3 victory over Jack Biggs and Leo Guzman-Perez on the No. 3 court. The doubles win was Mayola's first with the team, while Wavra raised his doubles record to 2-0.

Oneonta rode the momentum into singles play and swept all six courts. Schmid competed on the No. 1 court and defeated Gagliardi, 6-0, 6-2 to bring his singles record to 5-1. Ritterman dismantled Corcoran on the No. 2 court, 6-0, 6-1, to improve to 4-1 in singles, and Pitaleff outplayed Smoker on court No. 3 for a 6-2, 6-0, win and upgraded his singles record to 5-1.

Senior Nate Inzerillo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) improved his singles record to 3-0 after he overwhelmed Carpenter on court No. 4 for a straight set victory, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) dropped only one game against Guzman-Perez as he picked up his first win of the season on court No. 6, 6-1, 6-0. Sophomore Sean Lippman (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) had a close match with Aiden Brunner on court No. 5 as Lippman recorded his first victory of the season. Lippman controlled the first set before Brunner took the second set to force a super tiebreaker. The match continued to go back-and-forth in the tiebreaking set until Lippman outlasted Brunner for a 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, win.

The Red Dragons will be on break until Saturday, February 7, when they return for a road match at RIT.
