HOUGHTON, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track and field team competed at the Houghton Highlander Invitational on Saturday. The Red Dragons had 18 athletes finish in the top five of their respective events.
The track events started with the 60-meter hurdles, where freshman Jaiden Schrag (New Berlin, NY/Unadilla Valley Central) won the prelims at 9.41 and took first in the finals with a 9.42. Sophomore Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) placed third in the prelims at 9.77, and junior Ashlee Sphabmixay (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) qualified for the finals at seventh with a 10.39. Sphabmixay placed sixth in the finals at 10.42.
Three Red Dragons qualified for the 60-meter dash finals. In the prelims, senior Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) was fourth at 8.22, sophomore Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) took fifth at 8.24, and Schrag was seventh with an 8.35. DuBose placed fourth in the finals (8.19), and Schrag was fifth (8.32).
Senior Samantha Krayeski (Port Washington, NY/Paul D. Schreiber Senior) ran a 5:36.88 to place fourth in the mile. Jackson crossed fourth in the 400-meter with a 1:03.45, while senior Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) finished eighth at 1:05.36. Sophomore Brianna Senatore (/) ran a 1:0-6.17 for ninth, and Dodd-Brown was tenth at 1:06.87.
Freshman Natalia Sweat (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh) ran an AARTFC qualifying time of 2:22.49 to take second in the 800-meter race. Junior Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) earned fourth at 2:28.21, and senior Sabrinna Mena (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) ran a 2:28.26 to cross fifth overall.
In the 200-meter dash, DuBose ran 27.58, which was good for fourth place. Senatore was sixth at 28.22.
Sophomore Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) had a second-place performance in the 3,000-meter race at 11:13.62.
Oneonta's 4x400 relay of Woodworth, Mena, Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport), and Olivia Komacek (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) placed third at 4:32.47.
Junior Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) finished second in the weight throw at 13.83 meters. Freshman Mackenzie Lawrence (Berne, NY/Berne-Knox) was ninth (12.33 meters), and junior Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) took tenth (12.32 meters).
The Red Dragons had four finish in the top six of the shot put, with Lawrence earning second at 11.87 meters. Herman placed third at 11.55 meters, while Ragozzine was fifth at 10.93 meters. Freshman Wealthy Robinson (Utica, NY/Thomas R. Proctor) threw 10.73 meters for sixth place.
Freshman Ashley LaReddola (Coram, NY/Longwood) cleared 2.75 meters in the pole vault to take fourth place.
Schrag cleared 4.80 meters in the long jump to place fourth, and Dodd-Brown was fifth at 4.77 meters.
Jackson tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.40 meters.
Oneonta next competes at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Sat. Feb. 1.
