ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team took care of business and blanked Yeshiva, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. The Red Dragons won all nine matches as the team improved to 2-0 on the season and the Maccabees dropped to 0-1 overall.
Oneonta only dropped four games in doubles play as they swept the three courts. Sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) and junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) ran the No. 1 court and defeated David Cattan and Jacob Feit, 6-1. Freshmen
Jaden Ritterman (White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) and
Peter Pitaleff (Garrison, N.Y./Highland Falls Fort Montgomery) teamed up on the No. 2 court and routed Leo Rahmey and Ethan Rolnick, 6-2. The freshmen duo of
Seth Cheung (Somers, N.Y./Somers) and
Ryan Geller (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y./Cornwall) upended Jimmy Li and Eliav Sacknovitz on the No. 3 court, 6-1.
The Red Dragons continued their dominant play and secured all six singles matches. Chippari beat Cattan on the ones court, 6-2, 6-1, and Schmid beat Feit in the twos match, 6-1, 6-2. Ritterman and Geller each bageled their opponents in the first set of their respective victories. Ritterman earned his first collegiate singles win on the No. 3 court, defeating Israel Bussu, 6-0, 6-1, while Geller took the No. 4 court over Rahmey, 6-0, 6-3. Pitaleff had to battle in the second set of his match to take down Ethan Sapir in straight sets on the No. 5 court, 6-2, 7-5. Junior
Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) had a close match on the No. 6 court against Ethan Rolnick, but it was Greenberg who won in straight 6-4 sets.
Some of the Red Dragons will travel to Drew University on Friday, September 27, for the ITA Northeast Regionals starting at 9 am. The team's next match is on Saturday, October 12, for a pair of matches against Misericordia and Alfred University.
