MADISON, NJ. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team sent a couple members to Drew University to compete against several institutions at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships, this past weekend. Junior
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) and sophomore
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) represented Oneonta at the Regional Championships that included an open singles and doubles tournament. RPI's Aiden Drover-Mattinen won the singles and doubles open with Andy Zhu as his doubles partner.
Schmid fell to RPI's Tasmay Shah in the opening round of singles, 6-1, 6-0. Shah advanced to the quarterfinals in singles play. Chippari dropped to Vassar College's Joseph Braun, 6-4, 6-4 in his first match.
Chippari and Schmid paired up for the doubles open and faced Vassar's Arnav Agostinho and Pedro Cattaruzzi in the round of 32. The match went back and forth into a tiebreaker where Agostinho and Cattaruzzi took the match, 8-7 (7-4).
The Red Dragons are back in action for a pair of dual matches on Saturday, October 12, on the Dr. Heissan '63 Tennis Courts. Oneonta will host Misericordia at 1 pm then will take on Alfred University at 4 pm.
