Oneonta Falls to Skidmore and Union

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches to conclude the Union/Russell Sage Crosstown Challenge on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons fell to Skidmore 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-15) before dropping 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-20) to Union. Oneonta moves to 5-6 overall following the weekend.

In the opening match to Skidmore, juniors Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia High School/East Greenbush) and Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) finished with six kills each. Kendrick added a team-high eight digs and added one ace. Junior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) added five kills, and sophomore Abby Stevens (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley, Slate Hill) made 11 assists. Defensively, junior Sabrina Squicciarini (Manorville, NY/St. Anthony's) made three blocks, while freshman Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) also had three.

Skidmore's Madison Manning recorded 12 kills, and Rudi Reyes had nine. Catriona Hoelperl made 31 assists, and Athena Braverman grabbed 16 digs.

Skidmore jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the third set after two consecutive aces from Phoebe Yang. Another Throughbreds' run made it 15-7. McCabe hit a kill to cut into the lead, but Skidmore closed out the match victory with a kill from Manning.

McKenna Law (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) had a team-high ten kills in the second match, while sophomore Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford High School) added six. Sophomore Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) recorded three blocks, and freshman Hailey Herrera (Brooklyn, NY/Park Slope Collegiate) made 16 assists. Junior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior High School) had 11 digs.

Union's Shannon McGrath finished with 15 kills, nine digs, and four aces. Georgia Pinciaro tallied eight kills. Maddie McCarron had three blocks, and Allie Kronenberg dished out 29 assists.

Oneonta next hosts the Oneonta Invitational on Sat. Sept. 21. The Red Dragons first play Marywood at noon and Alfred State at 2:30 p.m.
