Fabrizio Honored as SUNYAC Women's Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After a stellar track & field career, Oneonta senior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) is the SUNYAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Scholar Athlete of the Year. The award is nominated and voted on by the conference sports information directors.

"We are proud of Izzy being recognized for her hard work not only in the throwing circles but also in the classroom," said head coach Chris Wilber. "She holds herself to a high academic standard and embodies what it means to be a student-athlete."

In 2024, senior Fabrizio was an outdoor NCAA Division III All-American Second Team athlete in the shot put. She placed 13th at the NCAA Division III championship meet with a program record of 13.76 meters. Fabrizio was the SUNYAC outdoor shot put champion at 13.67 meters. She was All-AARTFC and USTFCCCA All-Region in the shot put. Fabrizio placed in the top five in eight meets and won the shot put at the Cortland Red Dragon Open. Fabrizio currently holds the shot put record at 13.76 meters.

"I want to congratulate Izzy on earning this award. To excel in the classroom and in a sport, such as Track & Field, takes a tremendous amount of dedication because of the time commitment to both," said Athletics Director Ryan Hooper, "It's apparent all the work that Izzy has put into her academics and the Track program.  To garner this achievement, along with being a multiple-time All-American, is truly amazing.  She exemplifies what it means to be a Red Dragon and an exemplary scholar athlete.  I couldn't be happier for her on this award."

Fabrizio graduated with a 3.76 overall GPA in exercise science and was an inductee into the Chi Alpha Sigma National Honors Society.

To be eligible for the SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year award, student-athletes must prove academic and athletic excellence by obtaining a minimum 3.30 overall GPA, be a starter or significant reserve for their team, and be at least a sophomore.
