Men’s Tennis Splits WIAC Contests, Falls to #39 Rochester and NYU

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 9-0, in conference play while they dropped to No. 19 TCNJ, and were upended by No. 39 Rochester, and NYU, 9-0, in non-conference action throughout the week ending Saturday, April 20. The Red Dragons improved to 9-10 in the season, 1-1 in WIAC play, the Raptors dropped to 0-8 overall, 0-2 in the WIAC, the Lions go to 13-1 this season, 3-0 in the WIAC, the Yellow Jackets moved to 9-4 overall and the Violets moved to 4-7 this year.

Oneonta 9, Rutgers-Camden 0 
The Red Dragons only dropped two games in their three doubles matches. Freshmen Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) and Brayden Stuart (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks HS / New Hyde Park) teamed up and shut out Thanh Ngo and Christopher Abacan, 8-0, on the No. 2 court. On the ones court, senior August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) and sophomore William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) defeated John Brady and Edward McWilliams, 8-1, while sophomore Nathaniel Inzerrilo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) and freshman Zachary Blaakman (Penfield/Penfield High School) beat Tyrone King and Matthew Tepfer on the No. 3 court, 8-1.

Oneonta continued to trounce Rutgers-Camden and won all six singles matches. Schmid, Chippari and Blaakman each recorded double bagel set victories in their respective singles matches. Schmid bageled Brady on the No. 2 court, Chippari shut out Abacan on the No. 3 court and Blaakman defeated King in the No. 5 singles match. LePique, Stuart and sophomore Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) won their singles matches in straight 6-1 sets. LePique beat McWilliams on the ones court, Stuart upended Ngo in the No. 4 singles match, and Greenberg cruised past Tepfer on the No. 6 singles court.

Oneonta 0, #19 TCNJ 9 
TCNJ took each doubles match with an 8-0 final score, and won the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, 6-0, 6-0. Schmid had the closest match in singles play, however he fell to Adrian Tsui on the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-3. Chippari fell in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, on the No. 3 court against Aayush Kishore, while both LePique and Stuart were defeated, 6-0, 6-1, on the No. 1 and No. 4 singles courts, respectively.  

Oneonta 0, #39 Rochester 9
Both duos of LePique/Schmid and Chippari/Stuart fell in their doubles matches against Rochester, 8-2. The Yellow Jackets took court three, 8-1, to go up 3-0 in the match. Schmid came up short in singles play, 6-3, 6-2, against Kavin Shukla on the No. 2 court. LePique was bested on the No. 1 court against Kai Yuminaga, 6-2, 6-1, and Chippari was defeated by Ethan Samora, 6-3, 6-1, in the No. 3 singles match.  

Oneonta 0, NYU 9
LePique and Schmid had the closest contest in doubles play, but fell to Alex Lee and Boren Zheng, 8-5, on the No. 1 doubles court. Inzerrilo and Blaakman dropped their doubles match on the No. 3 court against Cooper Smith and Rumaish Khastgir, 8-2. Stuart was the only Red Dragon to win a game in both sets in sinles play, but was defeated by Zachary Freier on the No. 4 court, 6-3, 6-1. LePique fell in the No. 1 singles match to Louis Frowein, 6-0, 6-2.
