CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta men's track & field headed to SUNY Cortland for the opening day of the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships on Wednesday. The Red Dragons are 26th with three points, while SUNY Geneseo leads with 38 points.Â
Oneonta first competed in the 100-meter dash, where senior Chris Ganley (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) placed 38th with an 11.28.Â
Senior Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) earned all-region status in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after taking sixth at 9:27.38. Freshman Chris Schimkus (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) ran a 9:52.19 to place 16th overall. In the 10,000-meter, senior John Balk, Jr. (Suffern, NY/Suffern) finished 21st at 33:32.89.Â
The 4x100 relay of Erice Nieves, Josh Jerome (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland), Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland), and Ganley took 16th at 42.75.Â
Junior Marco Alteri threw 48.39 meters in the hammer throw to finish 21st overall.Â
Oneonta wraps up the AARTFC Championships on Thur. May 16 at 10 a.m. in Cortland.Â
