MAHWAH, NJ. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team dominated Ramapo College, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon in the final Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) regular season match of the season. The Red Dragons improved to 10-11 overall and finished 2-1 in the WIAC, second in the WIAC-East standings, and the Roadrunners dropped to 5-2 and third in the standings with a 1-2 in conference record. The College of New Jersey finished first in the WIAC-East and advanced to the WIAC Championship to play University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the No. 1 seed WIAC-West.
Oneonta surrendered only four games in the doubles matches against Ramapo. Freshmen
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) and
Brayden Stuart (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks HS / New Hyde Park) defeated Nate Cooper and Roshan George, 8-1, on the No. 2 court, while freshman
Zachary Blaakman (Penfield/Penfield High School) and sophomore
Nathaniel Inzerrilo (Center Moriches/Center Moriches) also recorded an 8-1 victory on the No. 3 court over James Jackson and Julian Baretto. Chippari and Stuart are now 6-9 on the season as a pair, and Blaakman and Inzerrilo improved to 5-7 as a team. Senior
August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) and sophomore
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) went to 7-10 on the No. 1 court this year with an 8-2 win against Alejandro Pacheco and Bobby Ciarletta. All three Red Dragonduos went 2-1 in WIAC play.
LePique and Chippari won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play for a pair of double bagel shutouts on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts, respectively. LePique goosed Pacheco to improve to 8-10 on the No. 1 court, and Chippari blanked Cooper to go to 13-8 on the season, 10-8 on the No. 3 court. Schmid defeated Ciarletta on the No. 2 court, 6-2, 6-0, and is now 10-9 on the season. Blaakman also recorded a second set bagel on the No. 5 court and beat Jackson, 6-3, 6-0. Braden Greenberg (Northport, N.Y./Northport) won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, on the No. 4 and No. 6 courts to complete the sweep over the Roadrunners. Stuart goes to 10-9 on the year with a win against George, and Greenberg upended Baretto and is 4-5 in his last nine matches. All six singles players for Oneonta were 2-1 in conference matches.
Oneonta is on the road Thursday, April 25, at the USTA National Center against Baruch at 3 pm.
