Oneonta Women's Track & Field Ready for SUNYAC Championships

ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's track & field competes at the SUNYAC Championships from Fri. Feb. 23 to Sat. Feb. 24 and look to have a strong showing. The Red Dragons placed fourth a year ago, with two athletes named all-conference. 

Tickets will be available for purchase on site. Ticket sales and doors will open Friday at 2 p.m.

Friday's competition begins at 2:30 p.m. and features the entire women's pentathlon; the first four events of the men's heptathlon; the 5,000-meter run, distance medley relay, pole vault, triple jump, and weight throw; and preliminaries in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, and 800-meter run. Saturday's action starts at 10:30 a.m. and features: the final three events of the heptathlon; the mile run, 1,000-meter run, 3,000-meter run, 4x400-meter relay, high jump, long jump and shot put; and finals in the events from Friday's preliminaries.

Oneonta features a well-rounded team in the sprints, distance, and field events. 

Pentathlon
Junior Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) qualified for the pentathlon with 2,055 points to pick up the ninth seed. She competes in all six events on Friday. 

60-Meter Dash Prelims
Senior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) comes in as the fourth seed in the 60-meter dash at 8.01, while freshman Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) is the sixth seed with an 8.10. Sophomore Maggie Petty (Highland, NY/Highland) is 14th (8.31). 

200-Meter Dash Prelims
DuBose also competes in the 200 and is seeded 13th (27.02).

400-Meter
Junior Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) grabs the eighth seed in the 400 at 1:01.61, while senior Taylor Johnson (White Plains, NY/White Plains) is at 1:04.06.

800-Meter
Two Red Dragons are set to race in the 800, with sophomore Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) seeded 11th (2:28.47) and freshman Keyla Mendoza (Freeport, NY/Freeport) at 2:35.94. 

1-Mile
Senior Olivia O'Donnell (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) races as the seventh seed with a time of 5:25.92. Senior Sierra Basco (Albany, NY/Shaker) is right behind at 5:26.60 for the eighth seed.

3,000-Meter
Senior Megan Francoeur (New Lebanon, NY/Pittsfield (MA)) qualified for the 3k with a 10:22.01 to earn the fifth seed, while junior Sabrinna Mena (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) is 11th with a 10:46.26. 

5,000-Meter
Francouer also races in the 5k as the fourth seed (18:06.31). Freshman Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) qualified at 19:24.33, and junior Sarah Luby (Patterson, NY/Brewster) posted a 20:03.69.

60-Meter Hurdles Prelims
Nnate continues a record-breaking season as the second-seeded runner in the 60-meter hurdles (8.73). Freshman Eko Dodd-Brown (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) is the ninth seed at 9.96, and sophomore Ashlee Sphabmixay (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) is 11th (10.21).

High Jump
Dodd-Brown competes in the high jump with the 11th seed of 1.42 meters.

Shot Put
Senior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) looks to medal in the shot put with the top-seeded mark of 13.78 meters. Four other Red Dragons will throw in the event, with senior Emelene Burek (Latham, NY/Shaker) ranked sixth (11.62 meters) and sophomore Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) as the ninth seed (11.50 meters). Junior Teghan Garris (Dryden, NY/Dryden) ranks 12th (11.29 meters) and sophomore Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) is 15th (10.86 meters). 

Weight Throw
Oneonta has four throwers in the weight throw, with Fabrizio securing the fifth seed at 15.42 meters. Ragozzine is seeded eighth (14.55 meters), and sophomore Makenna Black (Kingston, NY/Kingston) ranks 12th (13.49 meters). Burek qualified at 12.74 meters.
