WILLIAMSPORT, PA. -- The Oneonta wrestling team opened the 2024-25 season at the Lycoming Invitational, Sunday morning. The Red Dragons had 27 wrestlers compete and 19 record a win at the non-scoring event. The invitational paired up the freshmen and sophomores in one bracket with multiple round robin groups, and the juniors and seniors in another, giving each competitor at least three matches. Senior
Kenneth Sauer (Franklin/Franklin) went 4-0 with four falls on the day in the 174-class, eight other Red Dragons finished 3-0, and there were 17 that picked up a fall or tech fall victory.
Sauer started the meet with a 5:50 fall against Marymount's Marcus Lewis then pinned Lewis' teammate, Eddries Nezam, in 38 seconds. His last two fall wins were against Penn St. Behrend's Zane Anderson at 1:30 and St. John Fisher's Ryleigh Duryee at 5:46.

LiCastri wrestled in the 197-division and recorded two falls and a decision win. After a 9-4 decision, LiCastri pinned Scranton's Jonathan Sklavounos in 50 seconds then Scranton's Benjamin Tybur in 28 seconds.
Poggi picked up a tech fall and two major decisions in the 133A junior/senior bracket. The senior started the day with a 19-3 tech fall with five takedowns over Lycoming's Jaciah Whitcomb. He had back-to-back major decisions against St. John Fisher's Derek Bernardino (10-2) and Lycoming's Thomas Conselyea (9-1).
Ryan competed in the 184-division and finished with two pins and a major victory. He opened with Otterbein's Gary Steele and pinned him at 3:54, then recorded a 1:35 fall against Otterbein's Cade Holmes. He finished with an 8-0 major over Lycoming's Eli Crum.
In the 165-weight class, Zea recorded a major decision and two decision wins. He began the invitational with an 8-1 decision over Otterbein's Sam Wegesin. Zea Marino scored a third period takedown and gained riding time to defeat Cortland's Justin Klein, 7-6, then finished with a 9-1 major decision against Scranton's Jake Rudy.
Leonard wrestled in the 149A junior/senior bracket and recorded three wins, including a tech fall and major decision. The junior scored three takedowns in the first period against St. John Fisher's Michael Shelhart in a 18-2 (2:21) tech fall. After winning via medical forfeit, Leonard had four takedowns in a 14-4 major decision against Lycoming's Kobin Karper.
Hinchcliff finished with three wins in the 125B freshman/sophomore bracket with a tech fall and major decision. The sophomore started off with a 20-7 major decision with three four-point nearfalls against Penn State Behrend's Isaac Meyers. Hinchcliff was up 5-0 against Cortland's Sam Bartlett before Bartlett retired via injury at 2:18, then finished with a 15-0 (1:25) tech fall over Lycoming's Evan Newman.
Maby competed in the freshman/sophomore 141B bracket and totaled three wins with a fall and major decision. In his first match, he recorded a quick takedown and a four-point nearfall against St. John Fisher's Luke Yorke, then Yorke retired due to injury at 1:31. Maby then defeated Region Two's 141-pound fifth-ranked wrestler, Penn State Behrend's Cole Neil in an 11-3 decision. The freshman finished the day with a 46 second fall against Marymount's Jared Galang.
Monica had a tech fall and major decision in his three-win performance in the 157A bracket. He began with a 12-6 decision over Penn State Behrend's Rudy Brown, then recorded two takedowns and a four-point nearfall for a 12-1 major decision against Scranton's Aidan Veirun. The freshman capped off the day with a 19-2 tech fall, with two takedowns and eight total nearfall points, against Lycoming's Jayden Drummond.
Sophomores
Ocean Rados (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester High School),

Andrew Montagano (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) all recorded two wins at the invitational. In the 157B bracket, Rados had a 4:08 fall against Scranton's Logan Donato, and had a third-round takedown to defeat Cortland's Jack DiMaggio in an 8-7 decision. Venne wrestled in the 141A bracket and scored two fall victories against Penn State Behrend's Dominic Dedola in 22 seconds and Scranton's Kevin Cordero in 1:00. Waldman had a 15-0 (2:04) tech fall win over Marymount's Andre Sheppard at 133 pounds, then a 10-8 decision against Joesph Custodio. Montagano finished with two pins in the 125-weight division against Utica's TJ Monahan at 4:38 and Lycoming's Evan Newman at 1:20.

Jackson pinned St. John Fisher's Nathan Rourke at 3:45 in the 285-weight division, while Morris recorded a 4:39 fall against Rourke. Zenny had a 19-4 tech fall (4:46) with five takedowns against Otterbein's Radley Spencer at 165 pounds. Hinchcliff recorded five takedowns in a 16-3 major decision against Penn State Behrend's Matthew Tucci in the 125A bracket. Gielarowski wrestled Otterbein's Karson Nail in the 197-division and pinned Nail at 6:37, while Rosenweig competed at 125 pounds and finished Penn State Behrend's Hunter Williams with a 4:31 fall.
