Red Dragons Place Third at Electric City Invitational

SCRANTON, PA - The Oneonta women's swimming & diving team placed third out of eight teams at the weekend's Electric City Invitational hosted by Marywood University. The Red Dragons scored 495 points, while the Scranton won with 1,195 points.

Oneonta opened with a fourth-place performance in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Seniors Callie Stinson (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac), Lena Nakken (Islip, NY/Islip), junior Allison LaBarbera (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), and freshman Alexis Gibson (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) swam 1:44.43.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Gibson touched second at 25.62, while LaBarbera was fourth at 26.04.

The 400-yard medley relay finished sixth overall. Seniors Cadence Dudley (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) and Anna McCall (Ligonier, PA/Ligonier Valley), Gibson, and LaBarbera recorded a 4:30.11. Oneonta took sixth in the 200-yard medley relay, with Dudley, McCall, Stinson, and sophomore Alexandria Bard (Schenectady, NY/Duanesburg) posting a 2:04.68.

Gibson finished third in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:00.50. In the 100-yard backstroke, Bard placed eighth at 1:08.14.

The Oneonta 800-yard freestyle relay finished fourth overall. Stinson, LaBarbera, Gibson, and Nakken swam an 8:37.69.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, sophomore Ashley Brousseau (Peru, NY/Peru Central) placed sixth with a 20:51.94, while junior Alyssa Thompson (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) swam a 21:52.76 for eighth place. Bard took fifth in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:23.73, while Nakken was seventh at 2:27.27. Gibson continued with a third-place performance in the 100-yard freestyle at 55.63, and LaBarbera was eighth at 57.32.

Junior Macayla Hodkinson (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) took second in the three-meter dive with 183.45 points, while senior Paige Splendido (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) was fifth with 153.70 points. Hodkinson was second in the one-meter dive with 201.45 points.

Oneonta next competes at the Cortland Snow Flurries Invitational from Dec. 6-7.
