PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - A balanced Oneonta offense helped the Red Dragons' volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep over Plattsburgh on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons won 25-15, 25-18, and 25-17. Oneonta moves to 9-17 overall and 2-7 in the SUNYAC, while Plattsburgh falls to 4-21 and 0-9 in the conference.
The Red Dragons hit .323 on the day, with freshman Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) recording eight kills and three blocks. Junior Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia) added seven kills, one ace, and a block, while sophomore Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) had seven kills. Junior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior) had five aces, five assists, and 11 digs. Freshman Hailey Herrera (Brooklyn, NY/Park Slope Collegiate) made 19 assists.
Plattsburgh's Liya Girma tallied 12 kills, while Lexi Carfi added seven. Kyleigh Ganz made 22 assists, and K.C. Burke made 12 digs.
Oneonta took an 11-3 lead following kills from junior Sabrina Squicciarini (Manorville, NY/St. Anthony's) and Kendrick. A 5-0 Oneonta run with kills by junior Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) and Squicciarini made it 16-6. The Cardinals pulled within seven points before the Red Dragons took the first set on kills from Kendrick and Spano.
Plattsburgh used a 6-0 run in the second set to take a 13-10 lead. The Cardinals went ahead 16-14 before Welsh spurred a 4-0 span to retake the lead at 18-16. Plattsburgh took the following point, but Oneonta rattled off a 6-0 run to go up 24-17. Squicciarini knocked in the set-winning kil to make it 2-0.
A kill from Plattsburgh's Iris Mulvey gave the Cardinals a 12-11 lead in the third. Oneonta responded with a 4-0 run capped off with a Moller ace. Kendrick knocked in a pair of kills to make it 21-15. Oneonta closed out on a 3-0 run to complete the sweep.
Oneonta wraps up the regular season on Sat. Nov. 9 against Hartwick at 1 p.m.
