Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Late Goals Lift Plattsburgh St. over No. 20 Men’s Soccer

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The No. 20 nationally ranked SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team allowed a pair of goals in the second half to Plattsburgh State and fell 2-0 on the road, Wednesday afternoon. The Red Dragons dropped to 7-2-3 this season, 3-1-0 in SUNYAC play, and the Cardinals improved to 7-1-3 overall and 2-1-1 in the conference.

"We were well beaten today," said head coach Iain Byrne. "We had some chances to score, but overall, we were outplayed and outfought."

Plattsburgh took the lead at 76:25 when Brian McGowan scored off an assist from Jake McGowan. The Cardinals recorded their second goal quickly after the first at 78:06 when Modou Badjie scored off a pass from Santiago Vargas.

Oneonta had a few chances to get on the board throughout the game but could not convert. In the 15th minute, junior Kieran Weinstein (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz) crossed the ball towards the front of the net where senior Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) kicked it a little too high and hit the crossbar. Junior Joe Holder (Greenwood Lake, N.Y./Warwick) sent one towards the net in the 42nd minute, however Plattsburgh's Teddy Healy made the save. Senior Owen Siegel (Liberty, N.Y./Liberty) had a couple good looks at the net in the 53rd and 60th minutes, yet both were stopped by Healy.

Healy finished with four saves for the Cardinals and junior AJ Lucas (Beacon, N.Y./Beacon) had three saves for the Red Dragons. Oneonta had a slight edge in shots, 13-12, and corners, 7-6, while Plattsburgh held a 5-4 advantage in shots on target.

The Red Dragons are back on the road for their next match on Saturday, October 12, against Morrisville at 4:30 pm.
