Oneonta Picks Up Sweep Over Canton

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior High School) recorded a career-high eight aces to help the Oneonta women's volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Canton on Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons (8-16, 1-6 SUNYAC) won 25-15, 25-20, and 25-23 over the Roos (10-14, 1-6 SUNYAC).

Junior Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia High School/East Greenbush) recorded eight kills, two aces, 12 digs, and a block. Junior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) added seven kills, while junior Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) had six and two blocks. Freshman Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) made two blocks. Freshman Addison Tanton (/) finished with 18 assists, while Moller grabbed 17 digs.

A block from Spano and sophomore Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford High School) spurred a 5-0 Oneonta run with two aces from Tanton to take a 7-3 lead. The Roos cut the lead to two points before the Red Dragons went on a 6-0 span that included four of Moller's aces. Oneonta built up to 17-7 following a block from Kendrick and Landversicht. Spano knocked in a kill to take a ten-point lead before Oneonta took the first set on a Canton error.

The Roos looked to respond in the second set after taking a 7-1 lead. Emerson Coulter tallied a kill to make it 10-7, but Oneonta answered with a 6-0 run with kills from Kendrick and McCabe and two more Moller aces. Canton pulled within one before a 4-0 Oneonta run. Kills by Kendrick and Landversicht brought the score to 24-19, and McCabe grabbed the set-winning kill.

The Roos took an 11-6 lead in the third. A 5-0 Red Dragons' run tied the set, but Canton regained the lead at 19-15. Moller tacked on another two aces, and McCabe capped off a 5-0 Oneonta run with a kill to take a 20-19 lead. Kills from Landversicht and Welsh and a Kendrick ace made it 24-22. Welsh then knocked in the final kill to complete the sweep.

Oneonta next travels to face Potsdam on Fri. Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.
