ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Oswego in SUNYAC play on Friday evening. The Red Dragons fall to 7-16 overall and 0-6 in the SUNYAC, while the Lakers move to 13-10 and 4-2 in the conference. Oswego won 25-22, 25-24, and 26-24.
Freshman Shea Landversicht (Greenville, NY/Greenville) led Oneonta with six kills and five blocks, while junior Sabrina Squicciarini (Manorville, NY/St. Anthony's) added five kills. Sophomore Keira Welsh (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford High School) tallied five kills, and junior Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior High School) sent in three aces with 19 digs. Freshman Addison Tanton (/) dished out 13 assists.
Priscilla McReynolds had a match-high 12 kills, and Kalley Vugteveen tacked on 11. Mya Bush made 21 assists, and Lauren Cropp added 18 digs.
Oswego took an 8-6 lead in the first set before a 4-1 Oneonta span gave the Red Dragons a one-point lead. Oswego pulled away 17-13 following kills from McReynolds and Lillian Bryne. Oneonta pulled within one after Squicciarini sent in a kill. The Lakers used a 3-0 run to take a 23-19 advantage before sophomore Emma Morretta (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) knocked in a kill. A kill from junior Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) and an ace by Moller cut the lead to 24-22, but McReynolds hit the final kill.
After Oswego went ahead 10-7, Oneonta used a 4-0 span with two Squicciarini kills and blocks from juniors Mikayla Kendrick (Nassau, NY/Columbia High School/East Greenbush) and Kaite Spano made it 11-10. The Lakers responded by going on a 9-1 span and closed out the set, winning 25-14.
The Red Dragons fought in the third and opened 4-0 with kills from Moller and Landversicht. A Welsh kill pushed Oneonta ahead 5-2, but the Lakers scored four straight to take the lead. Five ties followed until Oswego's Emily Zerisler recorded a kill and ace to make it 16-14. Squicciarini sent in a kill, and two aces from freshman Zoe Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach) gave Oneonta a one-point lead. The teams traded leads until Welsh tied 24-24 with a kill. The Lakers took the following point on an error and then completed the sweep from a Zeisler ace.
Oneonta next hosts Canton on Sat. Oct. 26 at 1 p.m.
