ONEONTA, N.Y. - Buffalo State scored a goal midway through the first half on the way to a 1-0 win over the Oneonta women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Red Dragons fall to 4-7-1 overall and 4-2-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Bengals move to 8-6-0 and 5-1-0 in the conference.
Oneonta controlled the early momentum with freshman Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) firing a shot in the second minute that goalkeeper Addy Williams stopped. Williams saved a high shot from freshman Karsyn Kondracki (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) at 12:36 to keep the game scoreless. Buffalo State countered in the 21st minute when Oneonta goalkeeper Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) stopped an Emily Maczka shot.
The Bengals scored following a corner kick in the 25th minute. After a scramble in front of the Red Dragons' goal, Ryan Berman's cross was deflected to Lindsay DePietro, who slipped the ball past Meehan to make it 1-0.
Oneonta looked to level in the first half with on-goal shots from sophomore Keira Dashnow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and Emma Parente (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East), but Williams saved both.
Kondracki nearly scored in the 58th minute after heading a corner from senior Shannon Lowney (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa), but again, the goalkeeper was there for the stop.
Defenses held on both sides, and there were few scoring opportunities. A final shot from junior Tara Nicholson (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) was scooped up by Williams at 87:36, as the Bengals secured the win.
Oneonta outshot Buffalo State 12-9 and held a 5-4 corner kick advantage.
Meehan finished with three saves, while Williams had eight.
Oneonta next travels to face Canton on Sat. Oct. 19 at 2 p.m.
