ONEONTA, N.Y. - Sophomore Keira Dashnow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) recorded a brace on the way to a 4-0 senior day victory over Morrisville on Saturday afternoon. The Dragons shut down the Mustangs and finished the game with a 25-1 shot advantage. Oneonta moves to 4-6-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the SUNYAC, while Morrisville falls to 0-9-2 and 0-5-0 in the conference.
Oneonta came out of the first half strong and struck in the 18th minute when Dashnow scored on an assist from Karsyn Kondracki (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West). The Red Dragons continued to mount the pressure with three consecutive shots on goal from junior Tara Nicholson (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy), Dashnow, and Kondracki. The Red Dragons broke through again at 29:34 when Nicholson netted a goal on a corner kick from senior Shannon Lowney (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) to make it 2-0.
Oneonta grabbed one more goal before halftime, with Dashnow scoring on a pass from Nicholson at 39:14.
Morrisville took its lone shot in the second half, with Callie Lafontaine firing an on-goal attempt in the 49th minute. Junior goalkeeper Amelia Cataldo (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) made the save to keep the Mustangs off the board. Oneonta scored its fourth goal in the 58th minute, with sophomore Caroline Schimitsch (Little Neck, NY/The Mary Louis Academy) heading in her first career goal off a free kick from Lowney. Oneonta had other chances to score but secured the shutout victory.
Oneonta is back home on Wed. Oct. 16 to host Buffalo State at 3 p.m.
