GETTYSBURG, PA. -- The SUNY Oneonta wrestling team defeated Gettysburg College, 25-22, at the Gettysburg Tri-meet, Thursday evening. Senior Kenneth Sauer (Franklin/Franklin), and sophomores Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/) and Carson LiCastri (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow High School) each recorded two wins at the event. The Red Dragons fell to Muhlenberg College, 24-17, at the meet and improved to 10-3 overall.

Oneonta went up 9-0 against the Bullets after freshman Cameron Hinchcliff (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) won 125 by forfeit and junior Danny Poggi (West Islip/West Islip) beat Brendan Callahan at 133 with a 10-4 decision. Gettysburg took the next four matches to go ahead 19-9. Sauer and Ryan picked up tech fall victories at 174 and 184, respectively. Sauer defeated Connor Hoefling, 18-2, at 6:33 and Ryan got his, 18-3, tech fall win with riding time over James Doliscar. LiCastri overpowered Phil Nave and pinned him at 6:16 in the 197-match to secure the win for Oneonta.

Before their match against the Bullets, the Red Dragons dropped to the Mules, 27-14. In the bout, senior Max Yahre (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) won a 2-1 decision against Trey Miletics at 157. Both wrestlers scored an escape, with Miletics recording his with three seconds left in the third period, however Yahre had a 1:47 advantage of riding for the win. Sauer (174) had a 13-2 major decision against Tyson Derenberger, Ryan (184) beat Ryan Fairchild with a 6-3 decision, and LiCastri (197) recorded a 14-4 major decision versus Paul Parise.

Oneonta is back in action Saturday for the Will Abele Invitational at Ursinus College starting at 9:30 am.
