UTICA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's track & field had some solid individual performances on their way to a second-place finish at the Utica Winter Opener on Friday evening. Senior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) won the 60-meter hurdles, while freshman Nicolette DuBose (Levittown, NY/Island Trees) took first in the 60-meter dash. Senior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) went on to win the weight throw. The Red Dragons scored 82.5 points, while Utica won with 168.5.
The meet opened with the 5,000-meter race, where freshman Gia Engel (Syosset, NY/Syosset) took fifth at 19:24.33.
DuBose won the 60-meter prelims at 8.20, then took first in the finals at 8.16. Nnate was second in the 60-hurdles prelims at 9.28 and continued to win the finals with a facility record time of 9.01. The time is also the second-fastest in Oneonta's program history.
DuBose continued with a second-place performance in the 200-meter at 27.25.Â
The 4x200 relay group of Nnate, DuBose, sophomore Maggie Petty (Highland, NY/Highland), and junior Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) placed second at 1:54.30.
Fabrizio grabbed first in the weight throw at 14.52 meters, and sophomore Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) was third at 13.83 meters. Fabrizio took second in the shot put with a mark of 12.83 meters. Â
Oneonta will next compete at the Ithaca Quad Meet on Saturday. Jan. 20.
