ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â Castleton's Emily Harris netted five goals as the Spartans defeated the Red Dragons 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. Oneonta falls to 1-2 with the loss, while Castleton moves to 2-1 overall.Â
The Spartans scored back-to-back goals in the 10th and 11th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Amelia Wilson redirected a corner shot from Jess Smithson, and then Emily Harris broke through the Red Dragons' defense for the second goal.Â
Oneonta got on the board in the final seconds of the first quarter following a penalty corner at 14:54 when Abigail Draper (Remsen, NY/Holland Patent) scored on a Morgan Fleming (Harpursville, N.Y./Harpursville) assist.Â
Harris added two more goals in the second quarter to push the Spartans up 4-1. Draper added her second goal at 27:04 when Alexandra Howell (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) found her in front of the net.Â
Harris proved to be the Castleton offense and scored her fourth and fifth goals in the third quarter to give the Spartans a 6-2 advantage. Fleming scored in the final seconds of the fourth off an Erin Clark (Somers, N.Y./Somers) assist.Â
Sophomore Maura Leib (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse Minoa) started in goal and made eight saves, while sophomore Chelsea Dodenhoff (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip) played the fourth quarter and recorded one save. Castleton's Zoe Martin had six saves.Â
