Box Score 2 MADISON, NJ -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team traveled to Maidson, NJ to open the 2023-24 season against FDU-Florham and Drew University, Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons split the doubleheader, defeating the Devils 6-3 before falling to the Rangers, 8-1. Â
In the win against FDU-Florham, Oneonta started out slow in the doubles matches, dropping two of three. Freshmen
Zachary Blaakman (Penfield/Penfield High School) and
Brayden Stuart (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks HS / New Hyde Park) secured a point for the Red Dragons on the No. 3 doubles court by default. Senior
August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) and freshman
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) came up short on the No. 1 court in the tiebreak, 7-8 (2-7). Â
The Red Dragons turned it on in singles play and won five matches. LePique took court one over Matt Emery, 8-2. Chippari and Stuart both recorded their first collegiate singles victory with an 8-1 score on the No. 3 and No. 5 courts, respectively. Blaakman gained his first collegiate win on the No. 6 court by default, and senior
Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) won on the No. 4 court against Jaden Anderson, 8-2. Â
In their match against Drew, Chippari was the lone Red Dragon that won, defeating Daryl Wong Li-Hom on the No. 3 court in a tiebreak, 8-7 (8-6). Stuart had a close match on the No. 5 court against Santo Carroccia, but came up short in the tiebreak, 7-8 (3-7). Â
Oneonta is back in action Saturday for the Union Invitational, a two-day tournament starting at 9 am.Â
