Red Dragons Finish Fourth at SUNYAC Track & Field Championships

ONEONTA, N.Y. - Junior Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck, NY/Mamaroneck) broke the meet record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to place first and earn the gold medal on the second day of the SUNYAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. In total, the Oneonta men's track & field had seven All-SUNYAC performances on the day as the Red Dragons placed fourth with 91 points. Geneseo won the team title with 239. 

Junior Aidan Kelly (Farmingdale, NY/Farmingdale) finished third in the decathlon with a career-best 5,498 points. Kelly placed third in the discus at 29.87, then second in the pole vault with a clear of 3.50 meters. He won the javelin at 42.03 meters and finished third in the 1,500-meter (5:07.50). 

Junior Richard Mangogna (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) took fourth with 5,417 points. He was fourth in the 110-hurdles at 17.01 and won the pole vault at 4.20 meters. 

Bierman won a tight 3,000-meter steeplechase race that went down to the wire. He edged the second-place runner from Geneseo by 0.1 seconds to finish with a meet record of 9:06.31.

In the 110-hurdles, junior Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington) finished the finals sixth overall with a time of 16.33.

Junior Luke Jarski (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) earned third-team all-conference honors in the 800-meter by running a personal best time of 1:53.05 to place third overall in the finals. 

Junior Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) took tenth in the 5,000-meter race and crossed the line at 15:44.07. 

Oneonta had a pair of all-conference performances in the high jump, with Kelly placing second with a mark of 1.90 meters. Freshman Alex Ordonez (Troy, NY/Troy) was third at 1.85 meters. 

Junior Zoncent Zheng tallied a solid effort in the shot put to place third and earned All-SUNYAC Third Team honors with a personal record throw of 14.43 meters. Zheng also placed sixth in the discus at 39.90 meters.

Freshman Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) grabbed second place and second-team honors in the discus at 43.27 meters. 

Oneonta next competes at the AARTFC Outdoor Championships hosted by Susquehanna University on Wed. May 17.
