CORTLAND, N.Y. - The Oneonta track & field teams recorded a successful meet at Sunday's Cortland Qualifier. The meet was the final tune-up before the Red Dragons host the SUNYAC Championships next weekend.
In the women's 1,500-meter, junior Sierra Basco (Albany, NY/Shaker) turned in a 5:25.10 to finish fourth overall, and sophomore Sabrinna Mena (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) placed sixth at 5:37.55. The men's race saw junior Eion McCalin take second overall with a time of 4:17.12. Freshman Owen Sullivan (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) was fourth at 4:20.45.
Senior Josephine Alliano (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) was second overall in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal record time of 16.55. Sophomore Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) won the 400-meter at 1:03.85 and then placed second in the 100-meter at 13.21. Freshman Margaret Petty grabbed fourth place at 13.29.
In the men's 100-meter, freshman Cameron Sands (Kerhonkson, NY/Rondout Valley) was the top Oneonta finisher at 11.25 for second place. Freshman Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland) took fifth with a time of 11.48.
Freshman Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) won the women's 800-meter with a time of 2:32.22.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, junior Shane MArchese ran a 10:24.17 for third overall, and junior Joseph Ayala (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz) was fourth at 10:33.69.
Sophomore Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) placed second in the women's javelin at 24.76 meters, and junior Kate Bellman (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Township) hit 21.96 meters for third place. First-year Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) was fourth at 21.67 meters. Junior Cliff Biehl won the men's javelin with a throw of 42.88 meters, while sophomore Marco ALteri was second at 39.29. Freshman Drew Obernesser (New City, NY/Clarkstown North) took third with a mark of 36.67.
Junior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) earned a second-place finish in the women's shot put at 13.01 meters, while junior Emelene Burek (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) was third at 11.90. Sophomore Teghan Garris (Dryden, NY/Dryden) was fourth with a 10.72, and junior Kate Belmman grabbed fifth at 10.46 meters.
Senior Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) threw a personal best of 54.41 meters to win the men's hammer throw. Senior Jason Briscoe (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) was fourth overall at 46.41 meters.
Fabrizio went on the take third in the hammer throw at 46.34 meters. Senior Hannah Jackosn went for third at 45.57 meters.
Freshman Sawyer Eckberg (Maryland, NY/Laurens-Milford) tallied a third-place finish in the men's discus throw at 37.50 meters, and freshman Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) was third for the women at 35.25 meters.
Junior Richard Mangogna (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) cleared 4.31 meters in the men's pole vault to finish second overall.
The Oneonta men went one through fourth in the long jump, with Biehl winning at 6.30 meters. Junior Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield) also hit 6.30 meters, and sophomore Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) was third at 6.18 meters. Freshman Chad Franklin (/) took fourth with a jump of 6.05. Junior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) hit 4.89 meters in the women's long jump for second place. Alliano was third at 4.87.
Oneonta next competes at the SUNYAC Championships from May 5-6.
