CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta track & field teams participated in Saturday's Cortland Red Dragon Open. The Red Dragons had numerous top-ten finishes in a field of Division I and III athletes.Â
Syracuse loaded the women's 1,500-meter race with nine runners in the top ten. Freshman Eva Woodworth (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was the top Red Dragon with a personal record time of 5:07.88 for 16th overall. Junior Jonthomas Bierman ran a career-best time of 3:57.46 to place sixth overall in the men's race, while Luke Jarski was 12th at 4:04.34.Â
Junior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) posted an AARTFC qualifying time of 15.47 in the women's 100-meter hurdles, which was good for fourth overall. Sophomore Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) crossed 13th with a time of 18.64, and freshman Ashlee Sphabmixay (Vestal, NY/Vestal) was 14th with a personal record of 19.02. Junior Alexander Mavros finished 7th in the 110-meter hurdles at 16.11.Â
In the 5,000-meter, sophomore Sarah Luby (Patterson, NY/Brewster) was second at 20:44.47. Junior Christian Noa ran a personal record of 15:45.50 to take second in the men's race and qualify for the AARTFC regional meet. Senior Justin Murrillo ran a career-best of 15:49.29 for fourth overall, and junior Shane Marchese was sixth at a personal record of 16:13.11. Senior Cameron O'Connell crossed eighth with a personal best of 16:24.42, and junior Alex Chamak was ninth at 16:45.32.Â
Sophomore Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) placed fifth in the women's 100-meter race, and freshman Margaret Petty was tenth at 13.53. Freshman Chad Franklin grabbed a personal best in the men's race, crossing at 12.18 for 20th overall. Junior Cliff Biehl ran a personal record of 12.21 for 21st place.Â
Bierman hit another personal record in the 800-meter at 1:57.78 for fourth place.Â
Junior Taylor Johnson (White Plains, NY/White Plains) finished with a personal best of 1:13.62 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish seventh overall.Â
Nnate continued to have a solid day, placing sixth in the 200-meter at 27.55. D. Jackson was ninth at 27.64. Freshman Joshua Jerome ran a personal best of 23.07 on the men's side for eighth place.Â
In the field events, freshman Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) placed sixth in the javelin with a mark of 25.83 meters. Freshman Drew Obernesser was eighth for the men at 39.87 meters.Â
Oneonta had five finishers in the top ten of the women's shot put, and junior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) won with a throw of 13.08 meters. Junior Emelene Burek (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) was second at 12.30 meters, and junior Kate Bellman (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Township) took fifth at 10.54 meters. Senior Hannah Jackson (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) placed sixth at 10.37 meters, and freshman Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) claimed seventh by throwing 10.24 meters. Freshman Sawyer Eckberg hit 11.79 meters for the men, which put him ninth overall. Senior Jason Briscoe was tenth at 11.46 meters.
In the hammer throw, senior Miles Moliterni finished second at 50.74, and Briscoe was fourth at 46.88 meters. The Oneonta women also performed strongly, with Fabrizio taking second at 45.97 meters. H. Jackson threw 45.23 meters for third, and senior Christina Groleau (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) hit a personal record mark of 44.39 meters for fourth. Raggozzine earned sixth at 40.54 meters.Â
Eckberg took second in the discus at 40.89 meters. Bellman hit a personal record of 33.80 meters to place second on the women's side. Ragozzine was third at 33.40 meters, and Burek had a personal best of 32.86 for fourth overall. H. Jackson was sixth with a throw of 30.95 meters, Fabrizio was seventh (30.22), and Groleau took eighth (30.08).
In the pole vault, Sherry Georgeson-Hahn (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) cleared a personal record of 2.30 meters to finish ninth.Â
Franklin went second in the men's long jump at 6.69 meters.
Oneonta next competes at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic and Cortland Upstate Challenge on Sat. Apr. 15.Â
