Men's Tennis Upended by TCNJ and Rochester

ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team suffered a couple setbacks this weekend, falling to the College of New Jersey (TCNJ), 9-0, in a conference match, then to Rochester, 8-1, in non-conference action. The results moved the Red Dragons to 4-9 overall and 1-1 in the conference, the lions improved to 8-2 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC, and the Yellowjackets are now 5-6 on the season.

Senior Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) won Oneonta's point in their match versus Rochester on the No. 2 singles court against Rahul Ravi. Spottek came up just short in the first set, 5-7, but battled in the second set for a 6-4 win, forcing a 10-point third set where he won 10-6. Junior Yonathan Glattman (Hewlett/Hewlett) also went into a third set tie breaker on the No. 6 court against Zach Fox. Glattman won the first set 6-3, however Fox would take the second set and tie breaker, 6-1 and 10-5. In the doubles matches, junior Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) and sophomore Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) had a close match on the No. 3 court, but Kei Ogawa and John Hui got the upper hand for an 8-6 win.

Against TCNJ, senior August LePique (New York, NY/Columbia) was in the closest matches in both doubles and singles. On the No. 2 doubles court, LePique teamed with freshman William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS), however they were upended by Nick Matkiwsky and Akul Telluri. In singles play, LePique fought hard against Adrian Tsui, however Tsui came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win.

The Red Dragons return to action Thursday when they host Union at 4 pm.
