ONEONTA, N.Y. -- A five-goal third period that favored Hamilton was the difference maker as the SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team dropped their non-conference match against the Continentals, 16-9, Tuesday evening. Junior
Harrison Boukas (North Massapequa/Plainegde) recorded a career-high 27 saves, tying him for the seventh-most saves in a game in program history. Senior
Owen Vail (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) recorded a hat trick and freshman
Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) finished with two goals and two assists, while Red Dragons moved to 7-4 on the season and the Continentals improved to 7-6 overall.
After Hamilton broke the scoreless tie, Oneonta strung together four goals within three minutes. Junior
Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) assisted O'Neil for the first two goals, junior
Evan Kelly (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) found the back of the net off a pass from senior
David Guest (Niskayuna/Niskayuna), and Vail capped off the run to put Oneonta ahead 4-1, at 7:46. The Continentals put together a four-goal run themselves to go up 5-4 at 3:09, however the Red Dragons scored a pair to close out the first period. Senior
Connor Gallagher (Montrose/Hendrick Hudson) found Vail for the man-up goal after Hamilton was tagged with a delay of game, then Krieg gave Oneonta the lead off a dish from O'Neil at 2:22.
Thomas Healy had a couple chances to tie the game for the Continentals in the early second, but both shots were saved by Boukas. The Red Dragons were able to extend their lead at 7:09 after Vail recorded his hat trick off an assist from senior
Sam Haita (Stephentown/La Salle Institute). Boukas continued to stand guard between the pipes and collected five saves within a three-minute span, however Hamilton ended the half with three goals to take an 8-7 lead heading into the break.
Failed clear attempts and turnovers on the Red Dragons side turned into a 5-0 Continental third period, increasing their lead to 13-7. Five different players scored for Hamilton, while Rowan Brumbaugh recorded two goals and an assist in the period.
Gallagher cut the lead to five early in the fourth, but Hamilton tacked on three more goals to create an eight-goal lead with 7:22 to play. Haita tallied the final goal of the game at 2:25.
Krieg and Haita each finished with a goal and two assists, while Gallagher ended with a goal and assist.
Brumbaugh finished with three goals and three assists, Healy had four goals and an assist, and Wunderle ended with a goal and three assists for Hamilton. Jack Fried finished with 12 saves for the Continentals.
The Red Dragons are back in action on Saturday for Senior Day against Cortland in the Battle of the Red Dragons at 12 pm.
