ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's lacrosse team was defeated by Cortland, 17-8, Saturday afternoon. Oneonta dropped to 7-5 on the season and 3-2 in the SUNYAC while Cortland moved to 10-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Â

After Cortland recorded the first four goals of the game, freshman
Jamie O'Neil (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) scored Oneonta's first goal off a pass from junior
Matthew Krieg (Port Jefferson Station/Comsewogue) at 6:06. Cortland then scored seven unanswered goals until sophomore
Matthew Mangels (St. James/Smithtown East) found the back of the net with 5:28 left in the half. Cortland went into the break ahead 12-2. Â
Cortland came out and tallied the first five goals of the third quarter. Dinnegan posted Oneonta's only goal of the period at 1:09. Down 17-3, Oneonta recorded five goals in the fourth while they held Cortland scoreless in the final 15. O'Neil scored three of the goals with one assisted by Krieg, Guest hit the back of the net off an assist from Haita, and junior
Evan Kelly (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) scored a man-up goal that was assisted by Gallagher.
O'Neil finished with four goals, Kreig had two assists, and junior
Harrison Boukas (North Massapequa/Plainegde) stopped 20 shots. Â
Cortland outshot Oneonta, 48-42, and held a 37-30 advantage in ground balls.
The Red Dragons are back in action Wednesday when they host New Paltz at 4 pm.Â
