CORTLAND, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's and men's cross country teams participated in the Cortland Upstate Challenge on Saturday with solid results. There was no team scoring, but the Red Dragons grabbed multiple personal records.
Starting with the women's 1,500-meter race, sophomore Sarah Luby (Patterson, NY/Brewster) placed eighth overall at 5:30.02. The men had a large group, and junior Joseph Ayala took 11th at 4:20.50, while junior Clayton Davis crossed at 4:25.82 for 13th overall. Sophomore Andrew Sorrell ran a personal best of 4:29.65 for 19th place.Â
Freshman Margaret Petty ran a personal best of 13.08 in the 100-meter for fourth overall. Junior Alec Weiss finished 16th in the men's race at 11.64.Â
Junior Sierra Basco (Albany, NY/Shaker) placed ninth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:38.09, and junior Aubrey Soller (Monticello, NY/Monticello) ran a personal record of 2:39.78 for tenth overall.Â
In the 400-meter hurdles, junior Taylor Johnson (White Plains, NY/White Plains) ran a personal best of 1:10.97 to earn a first-place finish.Â
Petty went on to run another personal record of 27.95 in the 200-meter to take 11th overall.
Graduate student Sherry Georgeson-Hahn (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) threw 18.74 meters in the women's javelin to finish tenth. Freshman Drew Obernesser placed sixth in the men's event at 41.34 meters, while sophomore Marco Alteri was eighth at 38.23.
Sophomore Teghan Garris (Dryden, NY/Dryden) scored fifth in the women's shot put at 10.75 meters, and freshman Tarryn Herman (Franklinville, NY/Franklinville) hit a personal best of 9.87 for ninth overall.Â
Junior Vincent Zheng placed fifth in the men's shot put at 12.80 meters, and junior Aidan Kelly was tenth at 10.20.
Alteri hit a personal record of 47.52 meters in the men's hammer throw to take fifth overall. Junior James Tumia was 11th at 38.81. Freshman Gabi Raggozzine also recorded a personal best of 42.18 in the women's hammer throw, which was good for sixth place.Â
Zheng continued with a personal record of 41.65 in the men's discus throw, which placed him fourth overall.Â
Freshman Alex Ordonez won the men's high jump by clearing a personal record of 1.96 meters. Freshman Chad Franklin was fourth in the long jump at 6.48 meters, while sophomore Joseph Ciardi was fifth at 6.35 meters. Ciardi went on to finish fifth in the triple jump at 12.95 meters.Â
