ONEONTA, N.Y. -- After a stretch of tough competition in Florida, the SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team won their past two matches against St. John Fisher and Houghton, Friday and Saturday. The Red Dragons (3-6) shut out the Cardinals (0-1), 9-0, then despite trailing in the match 3-0 defeated the Highlanders (3-5), 5-4.

Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and
Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) defeated Sean Danahy and Jake Anthony, 8-1, on the No. 1 doubles court. On the No. 2 court, senior

William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) beat Anthony Molosag and Will Chubb, 8-3, and sophomore
Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) and junior
Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) took the No. 3 court over Zach DeCaro and Ryan Wilson, 8-2. Â
The six Red Dragons all came away with victories in their respective singles matches. LePique defeated Danahy on the No. 1 court, 6-1, 6-2, Spottek took down Anthony, 6-0, 6-2, on the No. 2 court, and Dornisfe double bageled Chubb on the No. 3 court, 6-0, 6-0. Schmid faced Wilson on the No. 4 court and won, 6-3, 6-2, Khair beat Molosag in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6, on the No. 5 court, and like Dornsife, Mann defeated his opponent, DeCaro, with a double bagel, 6-0, 6-0 on the No. 6 court.

The Red Dragons fell behind 3-0 after their doubles matches against the Highlanders, however in a team effort Oneonta started to comeback in singles play. LePique defeated Jamie Staerkle 6-1, 6-2 on the No. 1 court and Khair beat Graham Cook on the No. 5 court, 6-2, 6-1 for two quick Red Dragon wins.
Dornsife faced Nolan Zach on the No. 3 court and after taking the first set 6-1, Dornsife battled in the second set that was decided by a tiebreaker where he won for a 7-6 (8-6) second set victory. Schmid also had a close match on the No. 4 court against Marcelo Garcia, however he was able to win in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, tying the overall match at four. Â
With one match remaining Spottek faced off against Micah Schilke on the No. 2 court. In a tightly contested match, Spottek took the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, clinching the Red Dragon victory.
Oneonta is back in action Sunday, March 26, when they travel to face Ithaca at 10 am.
