Softball Falls to LeToureau in Doubleheader

LONGVIEW, TX. -- The SUNY Oneonta softball team continued their tough road stretch in Texas and fell to LeTourneau in both games of their doubleheader, Wednesday afternoon. The Yellowjackets won game one in five innings, 8-0, before they took game two, 7-0, improving to 11-6. The Red Dragons are now 1-7 to start the season.

Game 1: LeTourneau 8, Oneonta 0 (5 innnings)
LeTourneau jumped ahead 2-0 in the first after scoring on a groundout and a double from Murphy Williams, then tallied another two in the second off Mickenzie Murry's single and a sacrifice fly from Kenna Hendry.

A two-run home run by Lexi Hutchins in the fourth inning put them ahead, 6-0. The Yellowjackets ended the game in the fifth scoring one run off a first and third double steal, then Murray hit it through the left side to bring home the final runner.

Senior Marissa Dionisio (Sayville/Sayville) (0-4) pitched 1.0+ innings and allowed four runs off three hits and two walks. Junior Angelina Scalere (Ardsley/Ardsley) relieved the final 3.2 innings, allowed four runs off six hits and struck out one.

Junior Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East) and senior Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park) were the only two Red Dragons to record a hit game one. Hussey singled in the second and Nagel hit a double to left center in the third.

Murphy pitched the complete game for LeTourneau and allowed two hits while striking out two.

Game 2: LeTourneau 7, Oneonta 0
The Yellowjackets made it 3-0 after the first inning. Lexi Hutchins had an RBI double, Williams brought one in on a groundout, and Leighton Landreth singled to score Hutchins.

The Red Dragons recorded their lone hit in the third inning with a one-out triple from junior Sara Cartier (Cicero/Cicero-North Syracuse). Cartier was unable to cross home as the inning ended with an infield pop-up and a groundout.

Hailee Leger extended LeTourneau's lead to five in the bottom half of the third with a two-RBI to right center. The next inning, the Yellowjackets scored the final couple runs off a bases-loaded walk and on a groundout.

Sophomore Cadence Brennan (Niskayuna/Niskayuna) (0-2) pitched the first 3.0 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, off eight hits. Freshman Anna Torgersen (Chester, NJ/Mendham) came into relief in the final 3.0 innings, and allowed two runs off four hits.
