MARSHALL, TX. -- The SUNY Oneonta softball team fell in both games of a doubleheader against #8 East Texas Baptist, Tuesday afternoon. A day after splitting a pair to #17 Eastern Connecticut State, the Red Dragons dropped game one 8-0 in five innings before the #8 Tigers took game two in six innings, 12-3. Oneonta is now 1-5 on the season while East Texas Baptist sits at 12-1.

Game 1: East Texas Baptist 8, Oneonta 0 (5 innings)
The Tigers got two in the second inning off a bases loaded hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly from Tristen Maddox, then tallied three more in the third when Tauryn Cummings hit a solo home run, Mallory Plye stole home, and Scarlett Perez scored during her teammate's, Mary Ellis', run down. In the fourth with two outs, East Texas Baptist tacked on two more on an error and a walk, before they put the game away with a double to right center in the fifth from Delanie Loya.

Seniors Marissa Nagel (Averill Park/Averill Park), Kayla Young (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Charles W. Baker), junior Sarah Paige (Fort Ann, N.Y./Fort Ann Central) and sophomore Julia Serena (White Plains/Valhalla) all recorded a hit during the game.

Game 2: East Texas Baptist 12, Oneonta 3 (6 innings)
Tigers' Cummings hit an RBI single through the left side in the first to put them up 1-0 to start game two.

In the top of the second, the Red Dragons got on the board and took the lead momentarily. With one out, Serena singled to right field. Junior Delaney Haley (Levittown/Division Avenue) reached first after a dropped third strike got past the Tigers catcher then freshman Malia Molina (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) loaded the bases with a walk. Young came in to pinch hit and on a 2-2 count ripped one up the middle that brought in Serena and Haley. East Texas Baptist regained the lead in the bottom of the third with back-to-back RBI singles.

The Tigers tacked on four in the third off a single, a triple, and a wild pitch, then Maddox homered in the fourth to go up six.

Oneonta recorded their last run in the sixth when Serena doubled down the right field line, scoring junior Victoria Hussey (Nesconset/Smithtown East). East Texas Baptist reached the Mercy Rule in the bottom half of the inning off Loya's two-run home run.
