Red Dragons Record Personal Bests at Cornell Deneault Invitational

Mangogna Breaks Pole Vault Record

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Oneonta men's and women's track & field teams concluded their final meet before the SUNYAC Championships by competing at the Cornell Deneault Invitational on Saturday. 

Senior Justin Murillo (Elmont, NY/New Hyde Park) got the meet started in the 5,000-meter race and placed 18th with a time of 16:55.64. In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Alexander Mavros qualified for the finals after running an 8.78. He then placed seventh in the finals at 8.80. On the women's side, junior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) was second in the prelims at 9.35, and senior Joesphine Alliano ran a personal best of 9.69 to reach the finals. Nnate went on to take second in the finals at 9.41, and Alliano was sixth with a time of 10.09. 

Junior Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) took 12th in the 60-meter dash and crossed with a personal best of 8.40. Freshman Margaret Petty took 13th at 8.42. 

Juniors Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and John Balk Jr. led the Red Dragons in the mile. McClain ran a 4:30.22 for tenth, while Balk finished at 4:34.44 for 14th overall. Sophomore Matt Hayden (Long Valley, NJ/) recorded a personal best of 2:07.89 in the 800 to place 16th overall.

Freshman Nick Darrigo (Albany, NY/Guilderland) earned a 19th-place finish in the 200-meter after running 24.39, while junior Alec Weiss (Selden, NY/Newfield) crossed at 24.59 for 21st. Junior Taylor Johnson (White Plains, NY/White Plains) posted a 28.87 to place 21st, and Petty was 22nd with a 29.23.

Oneonta continued to succeed in the field events, and senior Jason Briscoe (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) placed fifth with a mark of 14.12 meters. Sophomore Marco Alteri took sixth with a personal record of 14.01 meters. The women's weight throw saw junior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) as the top Division III finisher at fourth overall. She threw 14.75 meters to break her personal best. 

Junior Vincent Zheng (Nanuet, NY/Nanuet) placed fourth in the men's shot put after throwing 13.80 meters. 

Fabrizio picked up the win in the women's shot put, throwing 13.33 meters and beating out throwers from Cornell. Junior Emelene Burek (Cohoes, NY/Shaker) hit a personal best mark of 11.98 meters for fourth, while sophomore Teghan Garris (Dryden, NY/Dryden) threw 11.31 to place sixth. Hannah Jackson (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) was seventh at 11.31, and freshman Gabi Raggozzine took eighth at a personal record of 10.71. 

Junior Richard Mangogna (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) broke the school record he set earlier in the season in the pole vault after clearing 4.72 meters. He placed seventh overall. Freshman Chad Franklin (/) took third in the long jump with a mark of 6.56 meters. Sophomore Joseph Ciardi (Accord, NY/) placed seventh at 6.28. Alliano went on to finish 14th with a leap of 4.52 meters. 

Ciardi grabbed a personal best of 13.14 to take third in the triple jump, while junior Michael Prata (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) was fourth with a personal record of 11.97. 

The Red Dragons next compete at the SUNYAC Indoor Track Championships started on Fri. Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in Brockport, N.Y.
