Wrestling Sweeps Electric City Duals, Coach Ritter Hits 200-Win Milestone

SCRANTON, PA. -- The Oneonta wrestling team dominated the field at the Electric City Duals and went 5-0 with 22 team pins to win the team title in Scranton, Sunday afternoon. Junior Jack Ryan (Trumbull, CT/) led the Red Dragons with four falls, all of which happened in the first period, and seniors Adonis Morano (Middletown, NY/Middletown), Santos Ocasio (Monroe/Monroe-Woodbury), and Kenneth Sauer (Franklin/Franklin) recorded two pins.  

Head coach Duane Ritter recorded his 200th career dual match victory at Oneonta in the Red Dragons 47-12 victory over the Scranton's 'B' Team. Coach Ritter entered his 20th season this year at the helm for Oneonta and, so far, has a 202-144-4 record (.583%).

Oneonta 40, Scranton 'A' 9
Oneonta won the first four matches against Scranton's 'A' team. Freshman Billy Colloca (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon Senior High) won a 19-14 decision at 125, junior Danny Poggi (West Islip/West Islip) recorded a 15-6 major decision win at 133, and Ocasio and junior Anderson Klosner (Ilion/Central Valley Academy) pinned their opponents in 141 and 149, respectively. After Sauer took a 7-1 decision at 174, Oneonta closed out the match with three fall victories from Ryan at 184, junior Carson LiCastri (Redding, CT/Joel Barlow High School) at 197, and junior Kennith Jackson (New Orleans, LA/) in the heavyweight bout.  

Oneonta 38, New Jersey City 13
Poggi had another major decision win at 133 and Ocasio picked up his second fall victory at 141. The Red Dragons were down 13-10 to the Gothic Knights until they won the last five matches. Morano had a 17-4 major decision victory at 165, Sauer and Ryan recorded a pin in the first period in their matches, and LiCastri and Jackson won by forfeit for the 38-13 final.  

Oneonta 47, Scranton 'B' 12
Oneonta had seven wrestlers record a fall victory against the Royals 'B' team. Freshman Cameron Hinchcliff (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) started the match off with a 15-0 tech fall win, then senior Peter Sacco (Vestal/Vestal) registered a 54 second pin at 133 and freshman Phillip Venne (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) took 1:03 to beat Orion Newell in the 141 bout. Senior Max Yahre (Plainview, N.Y./Plainview JFK) finished his match versus Dylan Blank with a 1:22 pin at 157, while junior Nicholas Sergi (Northport, NY/Northport), Ryan, and seniors Noah Kennedy (Greene/Greene) and Jhordyn Innocent () all pinned their opponents in under a minute to close out the match.

Oneonta 55, Keystone
In their shutout against Keystone, Poggi, Morano, and junior James DeLucia (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) pinned their counterparts. Freshman Mason Rappold () had a 15-0 tech. fall victory at 149, LiCastri and Innocent picked up a decision win, and four other Red Dragons walked away with a win via forfeit.  

Oneonta 51, Elmira 6
After winning the first three matches by forfeit, freshman Ocean Rados (Eastchester, NY/Eastchester High School) pinned Patrick Stauring at 149, and Yahre won a 10-4 decision against Hollis Berry. Morano, Sauer, and Ryan won the next three matches via fall and Kennedy got the final win by forfeit.  

The Red Dragons are back in action Saturday, November 18, for the ECWC Championships at RIT starting at 10 am.
