Box Score BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta women's tennis team clinched a playoff berth in the SUNYAC tournament this spring with a 6-3 win over Brockport, Friday evening at the Binghamton Tennis Center. The Red Dragons improved to 6-4 on the season and 4-2 in the conference while the Golden Eagles dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-5 in the SUNYAC.
Oneonta started the match strong, sweeping the doubles matches. Seniors
Julia Holtermann (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) and
Brianna Shaw (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) took the No. 1 court against Eliza Gonzalez and Olivia Raschiatore, 8-4. Senior
Sophia Schutte (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck) paired up with sophomore
Danielle Copp (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) for an 8-0 shutout win on the No. 2 court over Sam Aubin and Emma Lissow. Freshmen
Haley Peck (West Point, N.Y./James I. O'Neil) and
Hailey O'Connor (Mastic Beach, N.Y./William Floyd) walked away with an 8-2 win on the No. 3 court versus Shannon Aubin and Grace Trebilcock. Â
The Red Dragons secured the match victory with three straight set singles wins from O'Connor, Copp, and sophomore
Kelly Hayes (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook). O'Connor won against Lissow on the No. 3 court, 6-1, 6-2. Copp defeated Sam Aubin on the No. 4 court 6-2, 6-2, and Hayes beat Sophie Langdon on the No. 6 court 6-4, 6-3. Â
Oneonta returns to the Binghamton Tennis Center for their last conference match of the regular season against Geneseo at 3 pm. Â
