ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â After falling behind 2-0 to Plattsburgh, the Oneonta women's volleyball team rallied to three-straight set wins to secure a 3-2 victory on Friday evening in the Dewar Arena. The Cardinals (10-8, 2-4 SUNYAC) won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-21 before the Red Dragons (4-15, 1-6 SUNYAC) won 25-22, 25-19, and 15-9.Â
Senior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) posted double-digit kills with a match-high 14, while senior Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) recorded 11 kills on 21 attacks (.524 hitting).Â
Plattsburgh took a 15-10 lead in the third set following a 5-0 run and looked to complete the sweep. Davis broke the streak with a kill before another Cardinals run made it 18-11. Oneonta used one of its longest runs of the season by scoring nine unanswered with three kills from Davis, two by Fabrizio, and a Julia Reedy (Galway, NY/Galway) service ace to take a 20-18 lead. Both sides traded points until a Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) kill was followed by a Cardinals' error, making in 24-25. A final kill by Reedy cut the sets to 2-1.
With the third set tied 5-5, Fabrizio knocked in a pair of kills in a 5-0 span to double up Plattsburgh. Oneonta continued to hold the lead, and went up 16-11 following two more kills from Fabrizio and Davis. Plattsburgh pulled within one after kills by Liya Girma and Kyleigh Ganz until another 3-0 Red Dragons' run capped off by a Karli Chamberlin (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) ace made it 21-17. Oneonta closed out 4-1, with Layla Driscoll-Webster (Shullsburg, WI/Shullsburg) sealing it off with a service ace.Â
The fifth set started 2-2 before a 5-0 Oneonta run gave the host the advantage. Plattsburgh made it 13-9, but an error put Oneonta one point away from victory. Reedy then made the final kill.
Reedy recorded a career-high 13 kills. Chamberlin and Annalisa Alicea (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) each had two aces, while Spano finished with six blocks. Driscoll-Webster made a career-high 48 assists, while Alicea had a career-best 39 digs.Â
Plattsburgh's Darby Collyear had 12 kills, while Girma finished with ten. Emma Rivers made 25 assists, and Payton Zophy grabbed 47 digs.
Oneonta returns to host Potsdam on Sat. Oct. 21 at 1 p.m.
