PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - After a long trip north, the Oneonta women's soccer team lost 2-0 to Plattsburgh on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals scored early in the first half before scoring again in the 60th minute.
With the win, Plattsburgh improves to 5-4-5 and picks up three points in the conference standings. Yale drops to 5-5-3 with the loss.
The Cardinals attacked early in the first half, with Jessica Landman taking a bottom-left shot in the opening two minutes. Sophomore goalie Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) made the stop to keep it scoreless. Oneonta responded with on-net attempts from freshman Keira Dashnow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and fifth-year Joie Tortorice (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) that were both saved by Plattsburgh goalkeeper Lauren Haley.
Plattsburgh got on the board in the 9th minute when Avery Durgan scored off an Ella Santomassimo assist. The Cardinals' defense held the Red Dragons to one more shot in the half.
Meehan stopped a pair of shots to open the second before Nora Fitzgerald hit the back of the net to make it 2-0 at 62:48. Oneonta nearly scored in the 77th minute from a Tara Nicholson (Bayside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) bottom-left shot. The Red Dragons mustered one more on-goal ball in the 85th minute by Dashnow, but Haley made the stop.
Meehan finished with six saves, while Haley had four in the shutout.
Oneonta wraps up the regular season on Sat. Oct. 21 at 11 a.m. at Buffalo State.
