WILKES-BARRE, PA – The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team wrapped up their fall season on a strong note in cold and rainy conditions Sunday afternoon, defeating King's College, 6-3, and Misericordia, 9-0. Freshmen
Zachary Blaakman (Penfield/Penfield High School) and
Brayden Stuart (Albertson, N.Y./Herricks HS / New Hyde Park) went 4-0 on the day and freshman
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham), senior
Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia), and sophomore
William Schmid (Yonkers/Salesian HS) each tallied three wins. The Red Dragons improved to 4-1 on the season, while the Monarchs dropped to 0-1 overall and the Cougars fell to 0-6.
Oneonta 6, King's 3
Blaakman and Stuart were the only duo to win their doubles match against King's as they bageled Brendan Turowski and Jacob Nelson, 8-0, on the No. 3 court.
In singles play, the Red Dragons stepped up and won five of the six matches, including two split set victories. After falling in the first set, 6-2, to Logan Gregory on the No. 1 court, Schmid fought back and won the second set tiebreak then took the third set, 10-5. Freshman
Chris Chippari (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C Ketcham) dropped his first set 6-4 on the No. 2 court to John Toussaint, but he managed to force the third set tiebreaker with a 7-5 win in the second set. Chippari and Toussaint went back and forth in the tiebreak, and it was Chippari that came out on top for the win, 4-6, 7-5, 15-13.
Stuart, Mann, and Blaakman all won their singles matches in straight sets. Stuart defeated Aidan Temple on the No. 4 court, 6-2, 6-2, Mann bested Turowski on the No. 5 court, 6-3, 6-0, and Blaakman beat Cody Zheng on the No. 6 court, 7-5, 6-0.

The Red Dragons took all three doubles matches over the Cougars in commanding victories. Stuart and Blaakman recorded another 8-0 shutout win on the No. 3 court over Karol Bialek and Noah Ceklosky. Chippari and Schmid defeated Dalton Alexander and Mikey Dylina on the No. 1 court, 8-2, and junior
Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) and Mann came away with an 8-2 win on the No. 2 court against Chase Cavanaugh and Eli Harding.
Oneonta recorded four bagel sets in their six, straight set, singles matches. Schmid finished 6-0, 6-2 on the No. 1 court against Alexander, Chippari secured a 6-0, 6-1 win on the No. 2 court versus Dylina, and Khair had a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Cavanaugh on the No. 3 court. Stuart defeated Harding on the No. 4 court, 6-1, 6-3, Mann won in straight 6-1 sets against Ceklosky on the No. 5 court, and Blaakman rounded it out with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Bialek on the No. 6 court.
The Red Dragons will return to action on February 10 for the start of the spring season at RIT at 12 pm.
