FREDONIA, N.Y. - In a Saturday afternoon matchup against Fredonia, the SUNY Oneonta men's soccer team picked up a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fredonia. The win pushes them to 12-2 on the season and 5-2 in the SUNYAC, while the Blue Devils fall to 5-6-4 and 1-6-1 in the SUNYAC.
"That's three conference road wins in a row now, and we scored ten goals," said head coach Iain Bryne. "We are now looking forward to our final two matches at home."
In the 24th minute, Luigi Prosperi (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) scored to give the Red Dragons the lead on a goal assisted by Milton Mancias Magana (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck). Then, in the 49th minute, the Blue Devils evened it up with an unassisted goal from Fredrick Butler.
Prosperi scored again in the 73rd minute off a Magana assist and gave the Red Dragons the 2-1 lead.
Goalie Jax Flugel (Rochester, N.Y./) recorded one save. Fredonia goalie Tanner Stutzman made nine saves. Prosperi led Oneonta with three shots on goal. Three Blue Devils each had a shot in the game. Oneonta had a total of 23 shots, while Fredonia had eight. Oneonta also led in corner kicks, with a 10-6 edge.
Oneonta is back home Wednesday to take on Plattsburgh State at 3 p.m.
