ONEONTA, N.Y. -Â The Oneonta women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 sweep over Delhi in non-conference action on Wednesday evening. Oneonta won 25-13, 25-17, and 25-17. The Red Dragons move to 3-12 overall, and the Broncos fall to 3-13.Â
The Red Dragons looked strong from the start, opening on an 8-0 run behind two aces from Annalisa Alicea (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and two blocks by Ashanti Davis (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson). Delhi broke the streak with a Sage Renneisen kill before senior Isabella Fabrizo knocked in a pair of kills to take an 11-1 lead. Delhi never pulled within single digits, and a 5-0 Red Dragons' span with an Anna Moller (Long Beach, NY/Long Beach Senior High School) ace and Davis kill made it 19-5. A quick Broncos run cut the lead to ten, but two consecutive Davis kills and an ace put Oneonta ahead 23-11. Fabrizio gave the set victory behind two more kills.Â
The Red Dragons took a 7-3 lead in the second set, but a 3-0 Delhi run made it a one-point match. Colleen McCabe (Rockville Centre, NY/Oceanside) registered a kill and then blocked with Katie Spano (Dryden, NY/Dryden) to make it 9-7. After trading points, the Broncos tied 11-11 after Kaetlyn Babcock and Laurel Poston blocked an attack. McCabe knocked in a kill to spur a 3-0 run capped off with an Alicea ace to regain a 15-12 lead. Delhi's Chloe Elsenbeck and Stephanie Burke tallied kills to cut the set to 17-16, but another run gave Oneonta a narrow lead. A Red Dragons' service error made it 20-17 before Oneonta closed out on a 5-0 span with two kills from Gianna May (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville).Â
Delhi took a 7-5 advantage and looked to prevent the sweep. Fabrizio recorded a kill and ace to put Oneonta up 8-7. The Broncos tied before a 7-0 Red Dragons' run with three May kills made it 15-8. The Broncos remained competitive and cut the lead to 24-17 before Alciea completed the sweep with an ace.Â
Fabrizio and May lead the team with eight kills each, while Davis added seven and three blocks. Alicea and Moller each had four aces and 11 digs, while Layla Alt (Shullsburg, WI/Shullsburg) finished with 32 assists.Â
