NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - The Oneonta women's soccer team dropped a 7-0 decision to New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon on the road. The loss puts the Red Dragons at 4-4-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks stay atop the conference at 8-3-3 and 4-0-2 in the SUNYAC.
New Paltz capitalized by pressuring the Oneonta backline. The Red Dragons had a good look in the 12th minute when Kaiden Ring (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) got a shot on net, but goalie Maddie Franklin turned it aside. The Hawks scored the opening goal at 17:37 off a free kick when Ally Donovan passed off to Alexis DeLeo, who chipped the ball into the top left corner. New Paltz's Rachel Eisert scored at 24:41, and then the Hawks added a third goal less than a minute later from Rachel Eisert.Â
New Paltz found the back of the net one more time in the 33rd minute from a Laney Schmitz goal to lead 4-0 at the half.Â
Oneonta managed two on-target shots from Keira Dashnow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) and Gianna Hanner (Ridge, NY/Longwood) early in the second half that Franklin saved. New Paltz tallied scores from Eisert and DeLeo in the 60th and 62nd minutes to go ahead 6-0. The Hawks wrapped up with a goal at 81:25 from Gaby Treble.Â
Oneonta goalkeeper Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) finished with five saves, while Franklin had three.
The Red Dragons return home for Senior Day on Sat. Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
