UTICA, N.Y. -Â With most of the team at full strength, the Oneonta women's track & field recorded a strong showing at Saturday's Utica Blue & Orange Invitational. The Red Dragons placed second out of 20 teams with 83 points.Â
Oneonta started with the 60-meter hurdles, and sophomore Sage Douglass (Pine Plains, NY/Stissing Mountain) reached the finals after running 10.93 in the prelims. She matched her time in the finals and took seventh overall. The Red Dragons had two qualifiers in the 60-meter sprint in sophomore Danielle Jackson (Bronx, NY/Central Park East) at 8.47 and junior Ejim Nnate (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) with a personal record of 8.30. In the finals, Nnate took fifth at 8.31, and Jackson finished sixth with an 8.46.
Many of the Oneonta distance team made their season debuts, and junior Ella DePhillips (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) ran a 5:28.90 in the mile to finish fourth overall. First-year Eva Woodworth () placed seventh with a time of 5:38.02.Â
In the 400-meter race, Jackson finished fifth overall in a time of 1:04.25. Junior Olivia O'Donnell (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) ran a career best of 2:36.31 in the 800-meter for 14th place. Junior Megan Francoeur (New Lebanon, NY/Pittsfield (MA)) returned to the track by opening with a second-place finish and AARTFC qualifying time of 10:34.79 in the 3,000-meter.
Oneonta took second in the distance medley relay with Woodworth, DePhillips, Sierra Basco (Albany, NY/Shaker), and Sarh Luby crossing at 14:21.15. The 4x200 relay comprised Nnate, Jackson, Margaret Petty, and Ashlee Sphabmixay (Vestal, NY/Vestal) placed fourth at 1:55.41.Â
The Red Dragons' field continued to succeed. Junior Isabella Fabrizio (Highland Mills, NY/Cornwall) recorded a personal best of 14.49 in the weight throw to finish as the top Division III competitor and second overall. Senior Hannah Jackson (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) was fifth with a mark of 13.80, and junior Christina Groleau (Staten Island/Susan E. Wagner) threw for 13.49 meters. Freshman Gabi Ragozzine (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) earned eighth with a personal record throw of 13.04.Â
Fabrizio went second in the shot put with a personal best mark of 12.92 meters, which currently ranks 25th in Division III. Junior Emelene Burek () hit a career record of 11.89 to take third overall, and sophomore Teghan Garris (Dryden, NY/Dryden) threw 11.34 for fourth.Â
Oneonta next competes at the Ithaca Bomber Invitational on Sat. Feb. 4 at 10 a.m.
