ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta field hockey team was defeated by city rival Hartwick 5-0, Wednesday afternoon. The result moves both the Red Dragons and Hawks to 1-2 on the season.
Hartwick broke open the game in the third quarter scoring four goals. With 11:06 remaining in the third, Ashley Tricarico scored first, off a cross from Sydney Gagnon. Oneonta opened the following face off and got the ball down to the opposing end and earned a few corners, however junior
Erin Clark (Somers/Somers) was the only one that created a shot on goal that was eventually saved. Holly Calore was a part of the next two goals for the Hawks. Calore scored the second and assisted on the third, before Caroline Aspuru scored the final goal of the quarter with 30 seconds remaining off a tipped pass from Tricarico. Â
Hartwick tallied one more score with three minutes remaining from Libby Fortin. Â
Senior
Jennifer Tumino (Carle Place/Carle Place) finished with nine saves, five of which came in the first quarter, and senior
Victoria Pixley (Carmel/Carmel) had a defensive save. Madison Maddocks ended with four saves for Hartwick.
The Hawks had a 20-5 shot advantage, however the Red Dragons had the edge in penalty corners, 6-4. Â
Oneonta is back in action Friday as they travel to face Rochester at 6 pm.Â
