NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- Senior
Ethan Brunell (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) tallied two goals, including the game-winner, as the 14th-ranked SUNY Oneonta Men's Soccer team went on the road and defeated New Paltz, 3-1, Wednesday afternoon. The win improved the Red Dragons to 7-0-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the SUNYAC, while the Hawks fell to 5-3-2 in the season and 1-1-0 in conference.
Â
Oneonta dealt with adversity early on when New Paltz took the lead in the 18th minute off the leg of Tim Kane. Joesph DiPreta passed the ball into the six-yard box where the ball bounced off a couple players straight to Kane to score on the left side.
Â
The Red Dragons got into a rhythm for the later portion of the first half and scored all three of their goals before halftime. The equalizer was scored when senior
Lucas Fecci (Somers, N.Y./Somers) had a throw in deep in Oneonta's attack zone in the 23rd minute. Junior
John Bernardi (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) played the throw in and headed it behind him to freshman Joesph Holder who headed it in for the goal.
  Â
After the equalizer, the Red Dragons took the lead in the 33rd minute after Hawks' goalie Christian Micheli picked up the ball when it was passed by his teammate, setting up an Oneonta free kick just outside the six-yard box. Senior
Ian Zingaro (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) took the free kick and was blocked by the New Paltz wall, but the ball made its way towards Brunell to fire it into the right upper 90.
 Â
Oneonta tacked on the insurance goal a couple minutes before the half ended. Senior
Tristan Battistoni (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) controlled the New Paltz goal kick at midfield and sent the ball to Fecci for a quick pass to Brunell. Brunell dribbled past a couple Hawks defenders for a one-on-one with Micheli and beat him on his left side for the final 3-1 score.
 Â
Senior
Nate Hanna (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) finished with a pair of saves and Micheli ended with five.
Â
The Red Dragons narrowly outshot the Hawks 13-11 and had a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.

Oneonta returns for SUNYACÂ action on Saturday when they host Geneseo at 3 pm.Â
