SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- The SUNY Oneonta men's tennis team opened the 2022-23 season competing at the Union Dutchmen Invitational this past weekend.
The highlight of the weekend was the doubles team comprised of seniors
Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) and
Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant). The duo competed in the "A" doubles bracket and secured fifth place after three intense matches. On day one, Dornsife and Spottek fought hard but came up short in their opener, 8-5, against Ben Jacobs and Aidan O'Brien, from Union College. On the backdraw of the bracket they matched up against Trinity (Conn.) College's Rico Buorno and Kartik Erodula. Spottek and Dornsife had their hands full on the court but walked out with an 8-6 victory over the Bantams. In the fifth-place match, they faced off against Union's Ioannis Binopoulos and Ian Schunk, and won in another close match, 8-6.
The Red Dragons will compete next in the ITA Division III Northeast Regionals at Drew University on September 30.
