ONEOTNA, N.Y. - The visiting Vassar Brewers scored in the 70th minute to down the Oneonta women's soccer team 1-0 on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Red Dragons move to 2-3-0, while the Brewers rise to 3-2-1.

In a scoreless first half, the Vassar defense held Oneonta without a single shot attempt and controlled the midfield. After nine minutes, Vassar's Isabel Leinenweber made the first attempt, but goalkeeper Claire Lepper (Poland, NY/Poland) made the stop. The Brewers nearly scored when Jacqueline Morrison struck the crossbar and collected the rebound. Morrison shot bottom center, and Lepper saved the ball just in time. 

Vassar kept the pressure up and took nine shots in the first half, but the Red Dragons' defense kept it 0-0 heading into the break. 

Lepper recorded four more saves within the first 15 minutes of the second half. Oneonta made its first attempt at 68:57 when Vassar goalie Teresa Zimmer turned aside a shot from senior Joie Tortorice (Melville, NY/Walt Whitman) at the 68th minute. 

The Brewers got on the board at 70:32 when Madison Bouggess broke through the Red Dragons' defense and chipped the ball past the goalkeeper. Oneonta had one final attempt when senior Emma Kirkpatrick (Wading River, NY/Shoreham Wading River) headed a cross, but it sailed wide left. 

Vassar went on to outshoot Oneonta 17-2 and held a 3-0 corner kick advantage. 

Lepper (2-3) finished with a season-high ten saves, while Zimmer (3-1-1) recorded one.

Oneonta opens SUNYAC play next when they host Buffalo State on Sat. Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
