Men's track & field finish 2nd at Capital District Classic

A Quick Look
The SUNY Oneonta men's track & field team finished second yesterday at the Capital District Classic hosted by RPI.  Heading into next week's SUNYAC championships, the men continue to post personal best performances throughout the events.

The Inside Story
The throwers had another solid week of performances leading the way for the Red Dragons.  On the track, sophomores Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck/Mamaroneck) and Eion McClain (Andover, NJ/Pope John XXIII) turned in personal best performances in the 1500 meters.

Bierman ran third in the 1500 right behind a pair of Division I runners from Siena.  Bierman crossed the line with a PR of 4:07.58.  McClain was seventh in the race with a personal best time of 4:08.08.

The highest place-finishers in the throws were freshman Vincent Zheng (Nanuet/Nanuet) and junior Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush/Pine Bush).  Both placed second in their respective events.  Zheng recorded a PR of 13.80 meters in the shot put reaching the AARTFC qualifying standard.  Moliterni placed second in the hammer throw (49.66m) while also recording a PR in the shot put (11.34m).

Senior Jason Briscoe (Delmar/Bethlehem Central) reached personal best marks in both the hammer (45.57m) and shot put (11.81m).

Sophomore Clifford Biehl (Babylon/Babylon) posted a personal best mark in the javelin (42.35m), which placed him sixth in the event overall.

Senior Norberto Cervantes (Williamson/Williamson) and junior Chris Ganley (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) each recorded a pair of individual third-place finishes.  Cervantes was third in both the hammer and discus while Ganley was third in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

The final personal best performances in the meet were turned in by sophomore Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) and freshman Marco Altieri (Staten Island/Staten Island) in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.24) and hammer (42.26m) respectively.
