Week number two of the outdoor season saw the SUNY Oneonta men grab a second-place finish at the Pioneer Spring Invitational hosted by Utica on its brand-new facility. The Red Dragons scored 132 points behind the overall winner Utica who posted 228 points.

The Inside Story
The day began for the Red Dragons with a first-place finish by sophomore
Bryce Maopolski (Narrowsburg/Sullivan West) in the opening event. Maopolski won the 3K steeplechase crossing with a time of 10:14.19.

Two more individuals and one relay also captured wins on the afternoon for Oneonta. Sophomore
Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) tied his best time of 16.53 seconds to win the 110-meter-high hurdles. Junior
Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) posted a personal best mark of 48.10 meters (157'-10") to win the hammer throw. Mavros also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.14.

Oneonta's relay win came in the 4x400 where juniors
Cameron O'Connell (Liverpool/Liverpool) and
Justin Murillo (Elmont/New Hyde Park) combined with sophomores
Luke Jarski (Massapequa/Massapequa) and
Joseph Ayala (New Paltz/New Paltz) to record a time of 3:47.84. Jarski also had a personal best performance in the 400 meters of 52.26 seconds to finish as the runner-up in that event.

Oneonta's strongest event proved to be the hammer throw where, in addition to Moliterni winning the event, Oneonta had the 2
nd, 3
rd, 5
th and 8
th place finishers. Senior
D'Shaun Ricketts (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) (41.73m, 136'-11") and freshman
Marco Altieri (Staten Island/Staten Island) (40.65m, 133'-4") both posted personal best marks in placing third and fifth respectively.

The final two PRs on the day came from
Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck/Mamaroneck) in the 5K (15:36.58) and sophomore
Eric Nieves (Thornwood/Westlake) in the 100-meter dash (11.23 seconds). Bierman finished third in the event while Nieves finished fourth.

What's Next
The men will travel to Pennsylvania to compete in the two-day Bison Classic hosted by Bucknell University, which begins on Friday. They will also have athletes competing at Cortland on Saturday.
