Men's Track & Field place 2nd at Utica

A Quick Look
Week number two of the outdoor season saw the SUNY Oneonta men grab a second-place finish at the Pioneer Spring Invitational hosted by Utica on its brand-new facility.  The Red Dragons scored 132 points behind the overall winner Utica who posted 228 points.

The Inside Story
The day began for the Red Dragons with a first-place finish by sophomore Bryce Maopolski (Narrowsburg/Sullivan West) in the opening event.  Maopolski won the 3K steeplechase crossing with a time of 10:14.19.

Two more individuals and one relay also captured wins on the afternoon for Oneonta.  Sophomore Alex Mavros (Hopewell Junction/Arlington) tied his best time of 16.53 seconds to win the 110-meter-high hurdles.  Junior Miles Moliterni (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) posted a personal best mark of 48.10 meters (157'-10") to win the hammer throw.  Mavros also placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.14.

Oneonta's relay win came in the 4x400 where juniors Cameron O'Connell (Liverpool/Liverpool) and Justin Murillo (Elmont/New Hyde Park) combined with sophomores Luke Jarski (Massapequa/Massapequa) and Joseph Ayala (New Paltz/New Paltz) to record a time of 3:47.84.  Jarski also had a personal best performance in the 400 meters of 52.26 seconds to finish as the runner-up in that event.

Oneonta's strongest event proved to be the hammer throw where, in addition to Moliterni winning the event, Oneonta had the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 8th place finishers.  Senior D'Shaun Ricketts (Mount Vernon/Mount Vernon) (41.73m, 136'-11") and freshman Marco Altieri (Staten Island/Staten Island) (40.65m, 133'-4") both posted personal best marks in placing third and fifth respectively.

The final two PRs on the day came from Jonthomas Bierman (Mamaroneck/Mamaroneck) in the 5K (15:36.58) and sophomore Eric Nieves (Thornwood/Westlake) in the 100-meter dash (11.23 seconds).  Bierman finished third in the event while Nieves finished fourth.

What's Next
The men will travel to Pennsylvania to compete in the two-day Bison Classic hosted by Bucknell University, which begins on Friday.  They will also have athletes competing at Cortland on Saturday.
