Men's Tennis takes setback to RIT 9-0

Now 4-5 on the season

Box Score
April 5, 2022
Rochester, NY - After a successful winning weekend the Red Dragons got back on the road to take on Liberty League's RIT Tigers.  Unfortunately, Oneonta was a bit shorthanded in their lineup due to injuries but still fought valiantly.

The highlight of the doubles stanza was juniors Jacob Dornsife (Wilmington, DE/Mt. Pleasant) and Mason Spottek (Binghamton/Susquehanna Valley) playing together for the first time this season and filling in at the top spot got their match to a tiebreaker but took the setback 8-7.  The Red Dragon men were now down 3-0 going into singles play.

Highlights of the singles portion was three matches going three-sets.  Junior August Lepique lost in three-close sets in the top spot losing a close super tiebreaker 10-7.  The same fate for freshman Noah Khair (New Delhi, INDIA/National Institute of Open Schooling) who dropped the first set and then came back to deadlock the match at one-set a piece and succumbed in the fourth position with the score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.  The 9-0 shutout did not represent the extent of the day with long matches on three different courts.  Fifth singles player sophomore Joshua Mann (East Greenbush/Columbia) lost his first set 6-2 and bounced back to take the second set 6-3 and then suffered a 10-3 loss in the super breaker.

Next up for the SUNY Oneonta Men's Tennis Team is a double header on the Heissan Tennis Courts on the campus of SUNY Oneonta with SUNY Delhi visiting at 1 PM followed by a matchup with Fairleigh Dickinson Univ at 4:00 PM on Friday, April 8th.
